| Babymoons: Welcome to the New Trend in Pre-Baby Lovin |
Angelina flew to Paris. Britney escaped to the beaches of Malibu. Mark Wahlberg and girlfriend Rhea Durham headed to the surf as well (pictured). All these celebrities are partaking in the latest trend of “babymoons.”
Although celebrity moms-to-be may have a little more cash to splurge on an exotic pre-birth vacation, it is not just a trend for the rich and pregnant. USA Today reports that couples, more than ever, are taking vacations before their little ones arrive. In fact, 59% of parents are taking pre-pregnancy getaways. So welcome to the new American ritual: Couples rushing off for some "us" time before a new little baby consumes their lives.
And a whole cottage industry has sprung up to greet them: from hotel weekend packages to private beach-side thatched huts. Resorts from Massachusetts to California now offer Countdown to Baby packages that include his and hers pedicures, massages, facials, and breakfasts-in-bed.
Pampering and romance rolled up into a weekend or week-long retreat...seems to me that we could all use that once in a while, even as our kids get older! Would they care if we book a baby-moon with no baby bump in sight?!
